For the Indonesian Visitor

Uganda: A Warm Welcome to the Pearl of Africa

Uganda, often known as the "Pearl of Africa," is a beautiful and culturally diverse country in East Africa. For visitors arriving from Indonesia, Uganda offers an experience that combines tropical landscapes, welcoming communities, fascinating traditions, and some of Africa's most remarkable wildlife. Although the two countries are geographically distant, visitors may find familiar elements in Uganda's warm climate, family-oriented communities, love of food, and strong sense of hospitality.

Land & Landscape

At the source of the Nile

Uganda is a landlocked country situated around the Equator, with a generally pleasant tropical climate. The country is blessed with lakes, rivers, forests, mountains and wide savannahs. Lake Victoria, one of the world's largest freshwater lakes, is shared by Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania, while the mighty River Nile begins its journey northward from the lake at Jinja. Uganda's natural environment is one of its greatest attractions.

Wildlife & Adventure

Gorillas, safaris, and the Nile

For nature lovers, Uganda offers exceptional experiences. Visitors can go on safari to see elephants, lions, leopards, giraffes, buffaloes and many other animals. The country is also internationally recognised for its mountain gorillas, particularly in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, where visitors can take guided treks through the forest to observe these magnificent animals in their natural habitat. Chimpanzee tracking, birdwatching, white-water rafting on the Nile, and hiking in the Rwenzori Mountains are among the other experiences available.

People & Language

Uganda's greatest attraction: its people

The country is home to many different communities, languages and cultural traditions. English is widely used, while Luganda, Kiswahili and numerous local languages are also spoken. Visitors are generally greeted warmly, and a simple "Jambo," "Hello," or "Oli otya?" can be a pleasant way to begin an interaction.

Food & Cuisine

From matoke to Rolex

Food is another enjoyable part of the Ugandan experience. Visitors can try local dishes such as matoke, groundnut sauce, grilled meat, tilapia, chapati and the popular Rolex, a combination of chapati and eggs. Kampala also has restaurants serving international cuisine, including Asian, Indian, Middle Eastern and European food.

Customs & Etiquette

Travelling thoughtfully

Visitors from Indonesia will find Uganda relatively easy to explore, but it is useful to remember that customs can differ. Dressing respectfully, asking permission before photographing people, being patient when travelling, and showing interest in local traditions will usually be appreciated. In markets and informal shops, friendly negotiation over prices is common, while established businesses generally have fixed prices.

Gateway to Uganda

Kampala & Entebbe

Kampala is Uganda's lively capital and the main gateway to the country. From the city, visitors can travel to national parks, cultural sites, lakes and other destinations. Entebbe International Airport provides the principal international entry point.

Uganda welcomes visitors with a combination of nature, culture, adventure and human warmth. For an Indonesian traveller looking for something different from the familiar destinations of Southeast Asia, Uganda offers the opportunity to discover another tropical world — one where the landscapes are vast, the wildlife extraordinary, and the welcome genuinely memorable.

The Uganda Tourism Board provides official destination information and encourages visitors to explore the country responsibly and sustainably.
